Confirm watchstanding crew qualifications, limitations, and familiarity with the dock, fleet, or facility.

Determine whether a lookout is needed for this voyage.

I have reviewed the current voyage assessment, including all updates recorded during the voyage, and determined that the voyage risk is acceptable or has been properly mitigated.
NOTE: 46 CFR 140.635 requires the navigation assessment to be kept up to date during the voyage. At each change of navigational watch, the oncoming officer in charge of the navigational watch must review the current assessment for necessary changes, and the assessment and any updates must be communicated to the navigational watch. A navigation assessment entry must be recorded in the TVR, official log, or in accordance with the vessel's TSMS and must include the assessment date and time, the name of the individual making the assessment, and the starting and ending points of the voyage or trip covered.
